First Fruits Offering

Posted by admin on 23 May 09 - 0 Comments

Honour the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10

Have you ever claimed this promise in your life?

I know I have. The blessings are real. But somehow over the years, it has been forgotton. We don’t really practice or emphasize first fruits in our church, but it is important that we understand there is a difference between First Fruit Offerings and Tithing. Indeed, each opportunity to GIVE can be viewed as an INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY in our lives.

The principles behind first fruit offerings can be traced back to Leviticus 23 when God laid before the Israelites His appointed feasts which are to be treated as sacred. There are certain characteristics of what constitutes first fruits and how it is given. I came across an excellent article which sheds light on first fruit offerings and have been blessed by it.

If you are chasing that dream job, that high position or the material success in life, here’s a moral that you may interest you.

A group of successful graduates, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university Professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the Professor went to the kitchen and returned with a pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - made of porcelain, glass, crystal and plastic, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

Gethsemane: Trust in the Father

Posted by admin on 10 Apr 09 - 0 Comments

There is a nice devotion in http://www.graceatwork.org today and it reminds us to obey God even when the going gets tough. We may not understand what we are going through but we know that God’s love is perfect and all his ways are just. In the Garden of Gethsamen, Jesus knew that there was a tough decision to be made and chose accordingly.

Even while we are in our earthly bodies, our soul cries out to be clothed in heavenly dwelling (2 Cor 5). Therefore we make it our aim to be well pleasing to God whatever the circumstances.

Here I am Lord, Send Me!

Genesis 46:2 (KJV)
And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob.  And he said, “Here am I.”

1 Samuel 3:4 (NIV)
Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.”

Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Here’s a wonderful hymn titled “Here I am Lord” (Words and Music by Daniel L Schutte, 1981). As we go into 2009, lets seek the Lord to hear His voice… and to know His will for each of us in Missions 2009!
