Spiritual Sacrifices
While we are on the book of 1 Peter, a key passage that comes to mind for many of us is found in 1 Peter 2:9 -
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him…”
In the Old Testament God’s people had a priesthood whose role was to offer incense and sacrifices before God (eg. Deut 33:10). In the New Testament God’s people are a priesthood who serve in the following capacity:
1. Intercession - Approaching God on behalf of people
2. Ministry - Approaching people on behalf of God
I picked this up in a sermon by Ps Ronnie Chin at Revival Centre recently. Being mediators of a new covenant, we as priests also offer God “spiritual sacrifices” through our:
- Living (Rom 12)
- Dying (2 Tim 4:6)
- Faith (Phil 2:17)
- Praise (Heb 13:15)
- Witness (Rom 15:15)
- Good Works (Heb 13:16)
- Giving (Phil 4:18)
- Prayers (Ex 28:21, Ps 141:2)
Kingston and Fay - Lunch at Decanter

Set in a cozy ambience in beautiful Damansara Heights, Decanter provided the perfect backdrop for Kingston and Fay’s farewell lunch.
We have been blessed by the presence of this wonderful couple in our cell during the last few months. Barely out of Shanghai and into KL, we are sad to hear that you are now off to Sri Lanka. But we rejoice with you that God has a greater purpose for you in the next 9 months. Read more »
Beauty From Within
God reminded me even as we spent that time in being ready for work ie. putting on make-up and the best and most stylish clothes in order to look good to our friends and colleagues, have we not forget that Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7)? So much time is spent on the external finishes but do we spend that much time or more in preparing our hearts inwardly before we step out to work? Maybe the shine from the lip gloss is imperative for the world, but what about the shine that God wants to develop from within?
The most important aspect of our whole makeup is the heart for the Lord does not look at the things that man looks at. As women, we tend to be so focused on our outward appearances that we neglect the meat of what God sees. All the makeovers in the world will do nothing for the beauty compared with the daily heart makeovers that He wants to perform on us. For some, it could be that extra time taken to look good that we could instead use to look good in our hearts. So, before we begin the day, don’t forget to develop the beauty that radiates from within first.
Christian Principles for Promotion
Parable of the Wise Donkey
One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well.
The animal cried pityfully for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally he decided that the animal was old, and needed to go soon anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to save the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him.
They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

Trials and Sufferings
I was watching a BBC show on Bible Mysteries last night and it was the story of Peter and the mighty works he did after the Lord’s death and resurrection.
We all know that Peter was a changed man and the years of his life were characterized by trials and suffering. This is much like the life of Jesus, indeed the prophesy in Isaiah 53 says of our Lord: “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.”
Sometimes we go through life forgetting that God puts us through the furnace for our own good, so that our character may be refined and we learn to trust God more. In 1 Peter, there are some principles we should recognize:
1. Trials and suffering are inevitable in the Christian walk (1 Pe 1:6)
2.They are temporary and God will rescue us (1 Pe 5:10)
3. Enduring unjust suffering is commendable by God.
1 Pe 2:20 - Suffer for doing good and endure it -> commendable before God
1 Pe 3:14 - Suffer for what is right -> blessed
1 Pe 4:14 - Insulted because of the name of Christ -> blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you
